hello Dawn ..
I assume that you have already 'the Gospel of the Witches "by Chales G.Leland
if not ...........well that is a must ..I would recommend it to begin with
also look out for "The Unpublished Legends of Virgil." London, Elliot Stock.
as for Artemis....... I can't really say much
except that so many have been misguded
in believing that the Greek Gods and Goddesses have anything to do
with the Etrurian, Celts ,Pompeian and Latin[from the city Latina in Italy {NOT SOUTH AMERICA } and Trinacrians [ancient name of Sicilians ] which ewere the main tribes in ancient Italy from where the all 'Stregheria@ (Witchcraft in Italian ) comes from
this is because the Roman Empire invasion of ther countries was mistaken for
Italian tradition while ROME was truly the offspring of Sparta ....
(But this is an entirely different subject )
there- fore by asking here about Artemis is equivalent to
if one asks in Jupiter Tribe .. infos about .....Thor .. or Zeus .. or Pacal Votan
the Gods .......in all tradition may have similar 'powers '
but they are NOT the same archetypal Force ..
so this goes to everyone else here :
PLEASE ............never ask me about Artemis .......as I have never 'met ' her
I know Diana and She knows me .. .. this will suffice for now
so Dawn I hope this helps for now .. maybe other tribe members here can
give you their informatoms and tips .. :-)
sincerely

Re: reading material
Sat, November 3, 2007 - 8:34 PMthank you for the reccommendations and the lesson. that information is very much what i was asking for. it is reassuring to know that diana is not a part of the roman empire. that misconception has always been troubling for me...
if you ever feel like sharing more of this sort of history, i would love to learn.
and i promise that i will not ask you about artemis again.
in humble appreciation,

Re: reading material
Mon, November 19, 2007 - 8:47 PMAs an off-note, I think its wonderful that you pay attention to your history. Sometimes it seems the best thing to do is to just believe, but blind faith can harm us in such terrible ways. Knowledge that leads to the end of the known truth is when we must beleive blindly, since we have learned all we can on that and then must wait for the future to show us the rest.
Thankyou D

Re: reading materia
Mon, November 26, 2007 - 9:07 PMthanks for the tip anie. i will check that out for sure.
and thank you to alice as well for the thoughtful and thought-provoking reply. it almost seems to me that you are talking about the difference between faith and trust. a fine but important distinction in my opinion. and one that i struggle with from time to time. when i think about the difference between the two they almost seem opposite- faith is contracting and trust is expanding. faith (to me) is about reducing the complexity of our uncertainty about the way things are into the simplicity of a certainty about the way things are. trust is about expanding the simplicity of our certainty about the way things are into the complexity of an uncertainty about the way things are. faith is about trying to have some sense of control over the unfolding of the universe- closing it down to a concieveable size, while trust is about surrendering to the unfolding of the universe- opening up to the inconceivable vastness.
does that make any sense? -

Re: reading materia
Mon, November 26, 2007 - 9:28 PMit's like this...
i can have faith that i will be ok. to me that is a closing down the possibilities of the unfolding of the universe into a narrow spectrum of possibilities which result in me being "ok" (happy, healthy, needs met, etc.)
or i can trust that i will be ok. to me this is an opening up to however the universe may unfold in an acceptance that whatever happens in this unfolding is a part of the process.
i can have faith in "god"- a way of contracting the infinity into a manageable unit that i can control thru prayer and good behavior and so on.
or i can trust that there is a universal consciousness- a way of expanding my ability to accept what every moment brings to my individual consciousness.
i can have faith that this is so. i can define it and make it tangeable to my human intellect.
i can trust that what will be will be. i can't possibly and don't need to understand everything.

Re: reading materia
Tue, November 27, 2007 - 11:35 AMyes makes sense to me ... beautifully put :
*faith is about trying to have some sense of control over the unfolding of the universe- closing it down to a concieveable size, while trust is about surrendering to the unfolding of the universe- opening up to the inconceivable vastness.*
*. i can't possibly and don't need to understand everything. *
the only understanding ,I know of , that can comprehend everything ... is the one that comes from the Heart ! -

Re: reading materia
Wed, January 9, 2008 - 5:21 PMwow, very intense, and although I get pretty intense myself I have learnt to take it all in stride and just let it be. I trust that the world will keep spinning around and around and that I am grounded within it, and i have faith, or believe, that there are greater powers in the world that are simply to massive and grand for the human mind to fully comprehend or copy (cloning etc...ew). We are not gods, but together we make up "god", and since I trust in the physical, my beliefs in the so called met-physical are fully grounded. That's as basic as I get on thinking about the whole spectrum of things, but it works, so I won't complain :)

Alice
P.S. original point of this blog, check out Cunningham's book on earth magic, he goes into the seasons nicely, but not very intensly, mostly its for beggining your practices w/ nature and becoming in tune with the seasons. Nice begginger course. -

Wed, January 9, 2008 - 5:49 PMScott 's books are well written and an easy read as well
tho' they focus mostly on rituals ...

Re: reading materia
Thu, January 10, 2008 - 11:24 PMi read "earth power" by him and didn't find it especially enlightening... it seemed to be too much about little magic games for my taste. i appreciate the reccommendation however. thankyou also for describing what you mean by "faith". i think that we are both thinking along pretty similar lines- i am just calling it trust and you are calling it faith. it took me a long time to be able to get past my christian programming of "god" meaning some judgemental old man up in the clouds... it seems that i was experiencing a similar blockage to the word "faith".
i guess that explains why it felt so contracting.
respectfully,

Re: reading material (by Grimassi)
Sun, March 23, 2008 - 11:27 PMGreetings,
I'm new here and you won't find too much about me in my "profile" cuz I'm new to tribe.net, too.
In looking around briefly, I don't see any mention of Raven Grimassi's books. Are they controversial?
I recently attended a lecture he gave on Leland and he, R.G., seemed honest and earnest to me.

Re: reading material (by Grimassi)
Wed, March 26, 2008 - 12:53 PMHi Lupa,
did you see Raven at Pantheacon this year?
could you / would you share a bit of what you learned at the lecture with us? -

Re: Raven G. at PantheaCon 08
Sun, April 13, 2008 - 1:56 PMCiao,
I hope you will excuse my delay in responding. It's gonna take me awhile to remember to check back in with some of the new places I'm exploring on the Net.
While I was gone, it appears that Raven has posted a rundown of some of the topics he covered in his talk at PantheaCon. Here is the link and you might also look around the site, especially in the articles area where Raven responds to some of his critics and there's also a section of old texts that you can download.
www.stregheria.com/maddalena.htm
I'll be interested to hear what you think!

Lupa
