Aradia's Crescent cakes

Aradia was a pure spirit and saw many people were afflicted by their masters. Aradia descended among women and men and taught them witchcraft of her mother. "You shall be the first of the witches known, the first in all the world. When I have departed from this world, you will still meet once in the month, when the moon is full, to adore Diana, my mother, who is queen of all witches and faeries. Whenever you have need of anything, she shall aid you. You shall make cakes to the queen of heaven and feast and revel in her name.

*as it is almost Full Moon a ritualistic celebration is always appropiate ......D*

You shall take meal and salt and honey and water and conjure it. You shall make cakes of blessed meal, wine, salt, and honey shaped in the shape of the horned or crescent moon. These shall be Aradia's cakes to honor Diana. Say:

I do not bake the bread, nor with it salt,
Nor do I cook the honey and the wine;
I bake the body, blood and spirit,
Of Diana, beautiful Aradia,
In honor of you I will feast
And drain the goblet deep
And we will dance and leap
And sing charming magick in honor
Of Great Diana our queen!

I found this recipee and I'm gonna try it :

    1 tsp honey
1/3 cup shortening, oil, or butter
    1/2 cup brown sugar
    1 tbs white wine
    1 and 1/2 cups flour
    1/4 tsp baking soda
    1/4 tsp salt
    1 and 1/4 cups oatmeal
optional spices: cloves, ginger, cinnamon, allspice
Preheat to 350 degrees. Mix first four ingredients. Add last four ingredients. Combine well, adding water or wine if necessary to make into rollable dough. Cut into crescent shaped cakes and bake until light brown for about 15 minutes., sprinkle with powder sugar

Burn a white candle during the baking.

Do you ever burn mola salsa cakes? They glow green from the salt. ;-)

All Roman rituals have to use Mola Salsa cakes. I don't recall the type of salt I use, I get it from a health food store. Anyway I was wondering if the use of mola salsa extended into modern Aradian magical practices or if the tradition changed somewhere along the way. I would guess there's definately some kind of link because of the useage of cakes at all but then again that could be a hold over from the wine and wafer Catholic Eucharist. I guess it all depends on if you burn your cakes or eat them?

we used to bake and have wafers long before the Xtians appeared on our land ..
[ the Romans are really offsprings of Sparta .... after all ..we didn't have Roman tribes in Italy ..]
so some traditions got mixed with the Greek ones
when the 'Romans ' took over the Peninsula .....

there are too many unresolved hystorical issues to deal with ..
            but I divert .....

from Greece to Scandinavia however [so in Western Europe ]
we used to worship around tree groves .. with wine ,ale ,or magick mushrooms
the Romans , and later the Xtians .....only stole our heritage ... really ..
'borrowing' our festivities and our magickal tools and traditions ..
so the Eucharistic ceremonial is truly our ancient Pagan ways
            of communion with the Gods
or the Old religion ..... how we still refer to it ....... nowdays .......

Raven has pointed out that lelands version of the Vangelo(gospel of the witches)is not the original work, and that although it is the custom of some italians to threaten the saints if they do not grant ones prayers, to do so with the goddess is inapppropriate. In the Aridian material he gives a nicer version which may be found in his work Italian witchcraft as well as herditary witchcraft.
